Images are never neutral. They organize attention, attach meaning to identity, and train audiences to accept—or reject—the categories through which a people are represented.

The Abibitumi Abibifahodie Film Festival 2026 begins October 16 in Accra. The audience’s task is not passive consumption. We must listen for the language through which Black people are named, examine who possesses narrative authority, and ask which institutional structures allow the work to circulate on our own terms.

Prepare a page in your notebook with three headings: name, power, and continuity. During each film, record how those forces appear. A disciplined audience helps transform a screening into collective study and study into future construction.
